HOWLIC

This is a Pokemon-styled concept that an Etsy customer created and asked if I could create a plush of.  Of course, in tradition of our motto at Crochet Fanatic –“You dream it, we create it”, I brought his concept to life in plush.  This is the pattern for Howlic.

MATERIALS:
Worsted Weight Yarn:  Red, white, black, and yellow.
E crochet hook
Polyester Fiberfil
Tapestry needle

BODY:
Rd 1: With red, 9 sc in magic ring.  (9)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around.  (18)
Rd 3: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (27)
Rd 4: sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, (sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 3 times.  (31)
Rd 5: sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc, (sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 4 times.  (36)

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Weave tail through sc of Rd 17, pull tightly and secure.  Sew HEAD to BODY.

MUZZLE:
Rd 1: With white, 6 sc in magic ring.  (6)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around.  (12)
Rd 3: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (18)
Rds 4-5: sc in each sc around.  (18)
Rd 6: slip st in next sc, ch 1, turn; skip next slip st, sc in next 12 sc.  (12)
Rds 7-10: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (12)
Rd 11: (Ch 3, sc in second ch from hook, hdc in next ch, slip st in next sc) 4 times, slip st in next 4 sc, (ch 3, sc in second ch from hook, hdc in next ch, slip st in next sc) 4 times.
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew MUZZLE to HEAD adding stuffing before closing.

NOSE:
Embroider NOSE on HOWLIC.

EYES (MAKE 2):
Using black and yellow felt to make EYES.  Use white puff paint to EYE reflection.  Glue EYES to HOWLIC.

Rw 1: With white, ch 2, 2 sc in second ch from hook.  (2)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (2)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in each sc across.  (4)
Rw 4: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (4)
Rw 5: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc.  (6)
Rw 6: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (6)
Finish off.  Weave in ends.
OUTER EARS (MAKE 2):
Rw 1: With white, ch 2, 2 sc in second ch from hook.  (2)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (2)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in each sc across.  (4)
Rw 4: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (4)
Rw 5: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc.  (6)

Rw 7: Holding INNER EAR and OUTER EAR together, working along side of rows, and working through both thicknesses, ch 1, sc in each row on each side of EARS with 3 sc in point.
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew EARS to HEAD.

BELLY:

Rds 3-4: sc in each sc around.  (16)
Rd 5: (sc2tog) 3 times, sc in next 10 sc.  (13)
Rd 6: (sc2tog) 3 times, sc in next 7 sc.  (10)
Rds 7-13: sc in each sc around.  (10)
Rd 14: sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 6 sc.  (12)

BEGIN STUFFING FRONT LEGS FIRMLY.  CONTINUE STUFFING FIRMLY AT BOTTOM  AND MEDIUM TO LIGHT AT TOP SO IT CAN BE FLATTENED.

FRONT LEG SMALL WHITE FEATHERS (MAKE 4):
Rd 1: With white, ch 6, sc in second ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, (sc, ch 1, sc) in next ch working around ch, working in free loops of foundation ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, ch 1, slip st in first sc.
Finish off leaving a long tail.

FRONT LEG LARGE WHITE FEATHERS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With white, ch 10, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next 3 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, (sc, ch 1, sc) in next ch working around ch, working in free loops of foundation ch, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next 3 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, ch 1, slip st in first st.
Finish off.  Sew a FRONT LEG SMALL WHITE FEATHER on each side of bottom point.  Sew assembled FEATHERS to FRONT LEGS.

HIND LEGS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With white, 8 sc in magic ring.  (8)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around.  (16)
Rds 3-4: sc in each sc around.  (16)
Rd 5: (sc2tog) 3 times, sc in next 10 sc.  (13)
Rd 6: (sc2tog) 3 times, sc in next 7 sc.  (10)
Rds 7-13: sc in each sc around.  (10)
Rds 14-15: sc2tog, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog.  (10)  Change to red after Rd 15.
Rd 16: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc) around.  (12)

LEG BANDS (MAKE 2):
Rw 1: With black, ch 15, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across.  (14)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (14)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Wrap LEG BANDS around LEGS and sew LEG BAND together.

COLLAR AND NECK TUFF:
Rw 1: With black, ch 31, sc in second ch from hook and in each sc across.  (30)
Rw 2; Ch 1, turn; sc in next 10 sc, leaving remaining sc unworked.  (10)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; sc2tog, sc in next 6 sc, sc2tog.  (8)
Rw 4: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (8)
Rw 5: Ch 1, turn; sc2tog, sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog.  (6)
