SOCK MONKEY

This is another one of those patterns that I am surprised that it took me this long to making.  I have been seeing many people across the crafter’s world making one.  Of course, what pushed me to making one is a request from an Etsy customer.  Here is my pattern for a sock monkey.

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn:  Grey heather, white, and red.
E hook
Polyester fiberfill
Tapestry needle
1 set of 12mm safety eyes

ARMS AND LEGS (MAKE 4):
Rd 1: With white, 5 sc in magic ring.  (5)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around.  (10)
Rd 3: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (15)
Rds 4-9: sc in each sc around.  (15)  Change to grey heather after Rd 9.
Rds 10-25: sc in each sc around.  (15)
Finish off.  Weave in ends.  Stuff ARMS AND LEGS firmly.

TAIL:
Rd 1: With white, 8 sc in magic ring.  (8)
Rds 2-6: sc in each sc around.  (8)  Change to grey heather after Rd 9.
Rds 7-25: sc in each sc around.  (8)
Finish off.  Weave in ends.  Stuff TAIL firmly.

BODY:
Rd 1: With gray heather, 6 sc in magic ring.  (6)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around.  (12)
Rd 3: sc in next 3 sc, holding next sc on BODY together with first sc on LEG and working through both thicknesses, sc in next 3 sc, sc in next 3 sc on BODY, holding next sc on BODY together with first sc on LEG and working through both thicknesses, sc in next 3 sc.
Rd 4: sc in next 3 sc on BODY, sc in next 12 sc on LEG, sc in next 3 sc on BODY, sc in next 12 sc on LEG.  (30)
Rds 5-8: sc in each sc around.  (30)
Rd 9: sc in next sc, holding next sc on BODY together with first sc of TAIL and working through both thicknesses, sc in next 4 sc, sc in next 25 sc on BODY.
Rd 10: sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc on TAIL, sc in next 25 sc on BODY.  (30)
Rd 11-20: sc in each sc around.  (30)
Rd 21: holding first sc on ARM and next sc on BODY together and working through both thicknesses, sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 10 sc on BODY, holding first sc on ARM and next sc on BODY together and working through both thicknesses, sc in next 5 sc, sc in next 10 sc on BODY, holding next sc on BODY and st #13 on ARM and working through both thicknesses, sc in next 3 sc, slip in next 2 sc.  YOU WILL STOP TWO SC PAST THE STARTING SC.
Rd 22: sc in next 10 sc, sc in next unworked sc on ARM, working behind same ARM, sc in next sc, ch 3, skip next 3 sc, sc in next sc, skip next 8 sc on same ARM, sc in next sc, sc in next 10 sc on BODY, sc in next unworked sc on ARM, working behind same ARM, sc in next sc, ch 3, skip next 3 sc, sc in next sc, skip next 8 sc on same ARM, sc in next sc.
Rd 23: sc2tog, sc in next 7 sc, sc2tog, sc in next skipped sc on ARM, working behind same ARM, sc in next sc, ch 4, sc in next sc, skip next 6 sc on same ARM, sc in next sc, sc2tog on BODY, sc in next 8 sc, sc2tog, sc in next skipped sc on ARM, working behind same ARM, sc in next sc, ch 4, sc in next sc, skip next 6 sc on same ARM, sc in next sc, sc in next sc on BODY.
Rd 24: sc2tog, sc in next 6 sc, sc2tog, sc in next skipped sc on ARM, working behind same ARM, sc in next sc, ch 5, sc in next sc, skip next 4 sc on same ARM, sc in next sc, sc2tog on BODY, sc in next 8 sc, sc2tog, sc in next skipped sc on ARM, working behind same ARM, sc in next sc, ch 5, sc in next sc, skip next 4 sc on same ARM, sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc on BODY.
Rd 25: sc in next 7 sc, sc2tog, sc in next 4 sc on ARM, sc2tog on BODY, sc in next 8 sc, sc2tog, sc in next 4 sc on ARM, sc2tog on BODY, sc in next sc.  (28)
Rd 27: (sc in next 5 sc, sc2tog) around.  (24)
Rd 28: (sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog) around.  (20)
BEGIN STUFFING BODY FIRMLY AT THIS POINT.
Rd 29: (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (25)
Rd 30: (sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (30)
Rds 31-44: sc in each sc around.  (30)
INSERT SAFETY EYES WITH 4 SC BETWEEN EACH EYE.
Rd 45: (sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog) around.  (25)
Rd 46: (sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog) around.  (20)
Rd 47: (sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog) around.  (15)
Rd 48: (sc in next sc, sc2tog) around.  (10)
Rd 49: sc2tog around.  (5)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Weave tail through sc of Rd 49, pull tightly and secure.  Weave in ends.

MUZZLE:
Rd 1: With red, ch 7, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 4 ch, 3 sc in next ch working around ch, working in free loops of foundation ch, sc in next 4 ch, 2 sc in next sc.  (14)
Rd 2: 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next 3 sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc.  (22)
Rd 3: Slip st in next sc changing to white, sc in same sc as slip st, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc.  (26)
Rds 4-5: sc in each sc around.  (26)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew MUZZLE to head of BODY stuffing before closing.

EARS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With grey heather, 14 sc in magic ring.  (14)
Rd 2: Folding Rd 1 in half and working through both thicknesses, 2 sc in next 7 sc.  (14)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew EARS to head of BODY.

POM-POM:
Using red, create small pom-pom.

HAT:
Rd 1: With white, 7 sc in magic ring.  (7)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around.  (14)
Rd 3: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (21)
Rd 4: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (28)
Rd 5: (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (35)
Rds 6-7: sc in each sc around.  (35)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew Pom-pom to top of hat.  Sew HAT to head of BODY.
